GULF COAST CREW 2006 COLLEGE STANDOUTS
JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven College men's soccer team completed the 2006 season with a record of 11-6-1 under new Head Coach John Garvilla. Belhaven mid-fielder and Gulf Coast Crew standout, Brett Clifton, ranked 3rd among the team?s leading goal scorers. Clifton found the back of the net 7 times this season. The Blazers registered perhaps their biggest win of the season; a dominating, 5-0 shut-out of Union University, who was ranked 9th in the nation at the time. On home turf, the Blazers were a force to be reckoned with. Finishing with a record of 7-0 at H.T. Newell Field, while allowing the visiting teams merely 2 goals, while the Blazers racked up 25. Clifton will be on the Crew roster at all of the team?s upcoming summer tournaments as well as a camp counselor at the 2nd annual Gulf Coast Crew Camp in June of 2007.
MERIDIAN, Miss. - The Meridian Community College Eagles finished their 2006 season with a record of 12-4-0 under Head Coach Alex George. MCC mid-fielder and Gulf Coast Crew standout, Ryan Zelenka, ended the season with 8 goals and 2 assists. This ranked him 3rd on his team and tied for 14th in the state. The Eagles big mark of success in the season was defeating Hinds Community College, whom later were named the MACJC State Champions. Zelenka will be on the Crew roster at all of the team's upcoming summer tournaments as well as a camp counselor at the 2nd annual Gulf Coast Crew Camp in June of 2007.

PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The dates for the 2007 Gulf Coast Crew Soccer Camp are confirmed and set for June 19-22, 2007. The camp will be held at the Pascagoula Soccer Complex and is for beginner to advanced soccer players from the ages of 9 to 17. 2ND ANNUAL "BLAZER CLASH" FUTSAL TOURNAMENT
JACKSON, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Crew participated in the "Blazer Clash" futsal tournament, an annual event hosted by Belhaven College. The Crew, comprised of mostly Meridian Community College players, picked up some additional help from two members of the Mississippi College soccer team. The Crew started the afternoon with a dominating win over Hinds Community College of Raymond, Mississippi. In game two, the Crew squeaked past the Belhaven College Alumni team by one goal. In the last bracket game, the Crew battled it out with Birmingham-Southern College of Birmingham, Alabama to see which would move on to the semi-finals. Birmingham-Southern defeated the Crew and went on to take the tournament, outlasting the Belhaven College Blazers in the final.
PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The 2007 Gulf Coast Crew Summer 7-a-side dates have been confirmed and set for Saturday, June 30 - Sunday, July 1, 2007. The tournament will be held at the Pascagoula Soccer Complex. The three divisions of competition will be: men's open division, men over 30 division, and women's open division. GAUTIER, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Crew lost in the semi-finals due to a shoot-out in the June Gulf Coast 7-A-Side Invitational. The Crew fought off "Los Tres" in the semi-final to end the regular time period at a 9 to 9 tie. No goals were conceded by either team in the overtime period. Crew keeper Kyle Miller made two shoot-out saves to stay tied at the regular shoot-out. The Crew lost in the sudden death shoot-out. In most opinions by the spectators, this was seen to be the championship game of the tournament. Brett Clifton led the Crew through the weekend with 6 goals and an assist. Kyle Miller ended the tournament with 11 saves, 1 assist and 2 penalty kick stops. Throughout the weekend the Crew consisted of Jeff Bowman, Steve Chilsom, Brett Clifton, Matt Clifton, Austin Haygood, Cooper Kimbrell, Kyle Miller, Brock Moss, Paul Ross, Daniel Treherne, Matt Welch and Ryan Zelenka. In game one the Crew defeated "Legion" in a close 2-1. Ross and Kimbrell scored goals and Zelenka had an assist. In game two the Crew were victorious over "Effort" 4-3. Clifton had 2 goals with Kimbrell and Welch netting 1 a piece. Bowman and Kimbrell had the assists. Game 3 verse "Latina" was forfeited. The quarter-final was against "Chivas". The Crew finally opened up, winning 6-3. Clifton netted 2 while Zelenka, Bowman, Welch and Ross each put one in the goal. Haygood, Bowman and Zelenka had the game's assists.
PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The 2007 Gulf Coast Crew Soccer Camp  finished up and was named successful by the staff, campers, and parents. The camp grew like expected from last year and is expected to be larger next summer. Throughout the week campers went through touch drills, fun games, and a variety of scrimmages. The camp was staffed by Crew members Brett Clifton, Paul Ross, Ryan Zelenka and camp director, Neil Scott. Arrangements are being made for a 2008 summer camp. CREW TAKES 1ST PLACE IN 7-A-SIDE
PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Crew placed first in the 1st annual Gulf Coast Crew 7-a-side in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The Crew faced the "Nasty Dawgs", a team comprised of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College players, in the final. The Crew outlasted the Dawgs 6-3 to take home the win. In the semi-final the Crew began overtime against Mississippi State's club team. In golden goal format the Crew's Matt Clifton scored the game winner in the 3rd minute. In group play the Crew beat GCFC 5-1 and lost to "Quinn" 1-2. The Crew consisted of Jeff Bowman, Brett Clifton, Matt Clifton, Austin Haygood, Matt Welch, Brock Moss, Daniel Trehern, Steve Chisholm, Kyle Miller, Paul Ross, Seth Shepherd, Ryan Zelenka, and Neil Scott. In the "B" division final Pascagoula FC squeaked by the Fighting GC 4-3. The women's round robin ended with The Bay in first place and Pascagoula FC in second.

GAUTIER, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Crew went undefeated in the "Gulf Coast Champs" 7-a-side tournament held in Gautier, Mississippi on the weekend of July 21-22, 2007. In round robin style the Crew beat "Chelsea" 11-2 in game 1. Game 2 went as planned with a 9-2 victory over the "Sea Warriors". Game 3 against "The Wave" was another 11-4 blow-out. In game 4 the Crew faced off with "Pascagoula FC" who seemed to be the toughest match of the weekend. The Crew took PFC 6-4. The Crew led all teams with a total of 36 tournament points to take 1st place. Cooper Kimbrell with 7 and Austin Haygood with 6 led the Crew in scoring throughout the weekend. The Crew consisted of Jeff Bowman, Brett Clifton, Jordan Godsey, Austin Haygood, Cooper Kimbrell, Brock Moss, Charlie Robertson, Daniel Trehern, Steve Chisholm, Paul Ross, Ryan Zelenka, and Neil Scott.

GAUTIER, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Crew convincingly won in bracket play only to loose in the semi-finals of the largest 7-a-side to date provided by divingheadersoccer.com. In bracket play the Crew defeated "Extreme" 10-6 and "Mobile Blue" 4-1. The Crew faced off with "GCFC" out of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the quarter-finals and recorded a win of 7-1. In the semi-finales the Crew dropped a game to the eventual tournament winners, "Saltio" 5-7. This also ended the Crew's 10 game win streak. The Crew was led by guest player Chucky Montgomery who netted 11 goals with 2 assists. In goal, Kyle Miller made 14 saves.
JACKSON, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Crew's Brett Clifton earned offensive player of the week for the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. Playing his senior year for the Belhaven College Blazers out of Jackson, Mississippi, Clifton scored one goal and had one assist for the Blazers in the week beginning August 27, 2007. PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Crew has scheduled the first annual "Christmas with the Crew" 7-a-side soccer tournament for December 15-16, 2007. The tournament will be held at the Pascagoula Soccer Complex. The three divisions offered are: Men's "A" Division, Men's "B"/Over 30 Division, and Women's "A" Division. CREW MISSES FINALS AT "CHRISTMAS WITH THE CREW"
PASCAGOULA, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Crew's first annual "Christmas with the Crew" 7-a-side tournament was a success although the Crew took a loss in the semi-finals. The Crew won first in bracket play beating Combinado due to a forfeit, Chivas with a score of 9-6, Moss Point with a score of 4-3, and Los Tres due to another forfeit. The Crew went up againt the EDL Crew out of Long Beach, Mississippi in Sunday's semi-finals. The Crew started slow and couldn't catch up at they eventually lost 3-6. EDL Crew went on to lose to El Satillo in golden goal overtime in the championship match later in the afternoon.
